PORTA CASTRO
In 1620, a new gateway called Castro, who was a Spanish viceroy, was built by the will of the Palermitan senate. The architect who built it was Mariano Smiriglio. The gateway was adorned with a huge eagle, that was the symbol of the senate. The demolition was decided due to bad condition in 1879, but some ornaments were brought to the National Gallery in Sicily.
